Installation Requirements for Electromagnetic Flow Meters
— Full-Pipe Condition Is a Hard Requirement
Correct installation practices include:
Prefer vertical installation with the fluid flowing from bottom to top;
For horizontal installation, the electrodes should be positioned in the horizontal plane to avoid air accumulation
at the top of the pipe or sediment buildup at the bottom;
Straight pipe run requirements: at least 5D upstream and 2–3D downstream; if there are valves, elbows, or pumps upstream,
extend the straight run to 10D;
Grounding: metal pipes can be grounded through the flanges, while non-metallic pipes such as PVC must be equipped with
grounding rings or grounding electrodes.
