Mastering Electromagnetic Flow Meter Selection in 10 Minutes: A Lazy Person's Guide

2026-01-09
Choosing an electromagnetic flow meter can be confusing, but this quick guide helps you pick the right one in just 10 minutes.

1. Learn the Basics (3 mins)

The key is confirming the measured medium:
  • Only suitable for conductive liquids (sewage, slurry, acid/alkali solutions). Not for oil or pure water.
  • Corrosive media: Choose PTFE liner + tantalum electrodes.
  • Wear-resistant slurry: Use polyurethane liner + 316L electrodes.
  • High-temperature media: Select heat-resistant liners like Teflon.

2. Match Configurations (4 mins)

  • Pipe diameter: Generally match the pipeline. For oversized pipes with low flow, use a reduced diameter to keep velocity at 1–3 m/s.
  • Power & signal: Confirm 220V or battery power, and 4-20mA or RS485 output in advance.

3. Avoid Installation Pitfalls (3 mins)

  • Do not install at the pipe’s highest point (air bubbles) or pump inlet (negative pressure damage).
  • Follow the 5D upstream, 3D downstream straight pipe rule for accuracy.

Conclusion

With these three simple steps, you can quickly select a suitable electromagnetic flow meter. Just clarify the medium, materials and installation requirements, or provide parameters to a professional manufacturer for reliable selection.
