What liquid media are suitable for ultrasonic flow meter calibration?
The commonly applicable liquid media for ultrasonic flow meter calibration are listed below:
Water is the most widely used standard medium, including clean tap water, deionized water and purified water. It features stable physical properties, low cost and good sound transmission, ideal for routine and formal calibration.
Low-viscosity transparent liquids like light diesel, kerosene and mineral oil are also acceptable. They suit calibration for meters applied in oil-related pipelines.
In addition, aqueous solutions such as low-concentration glycol and alcohol can be used on demand.
Restrictions: Avoid liquids with excessive suspended solids, bubbles, sludge or strong corrosives. These will attenuate ultrasonic signals, cause signal loss and lead to inaccurate calibration results. All media shall keep stable temperature and uniform state during testing.
